Who am i ?
Hello i'm Lisa, originally from Whitehaven in Cumbria. The reason i wanted to be on the course is was because i was initially studying BA Photography at university in London straight after A-level, and the course just wasn't for me and throughout the year i realised i want to be doing a more demanding and consuming course so i decided to change degree paths and gladly got accepted here.
Why am i here ?
As an individual:
-I wanted to live in a calmer city, not as hectic and fast going as london for my student years and enjoy the experience of trying new things and meeting new people.

As a designer:
-As a designer i wanted to move on from my A-level habits and start a fresh on a degree where i could gain new skills and be in a working environment with people of similar interests and personalities.
What have you learned?

As an individual i have learnt alot:
-i do feel i can handle being away from home for long periods of time absolutely fine, moved from home to london last year, and leeds this year however its made me realise how much i should appreciate home more and the things my parents do for me.
-Became a fan of cooking and eating healthier, not such a fan of tuna pasta anymore, intact any pasta.
-Budget my money a lot more, no more shopping sprees.

As a designer i have learnt:
-How to work under pressure, and in a studio environment
-Juggle brief, and meet strict deadlines
-How to work as an individual and within groups which i both really enjoy
-Gained practical skills in photography, screen printing and digital software, before i came here i didn't even know what most of the adobe programmes were or have any idea how to use them, so i'm happy with how far my software skills have progressed.

what do you want to learn?

As an individual i want to learn:
-How to bake.
-More about film photography.
-How to organise my money a lot more.
-More about Leeds, the best places to go to find new music.

on the design side of things i would like to learn:
-A lot more about typography, i was quite shocked at how interesting it is and how much i enjoy type design, so id like to broader my knowledge with that and experiment more.
-Photoshop
-Laser cutting and letter press
-How to be more confident in explaining my work, and promoting it, so next year i definitely need to start networking and getting my name and design work out there.
-More contextual knowledge about graphic design, the seminars and lectures have been really useful for me to understand the theory behind graphic design.
-How to combine my interests of fashion, illustration, installation and photography into my designs sometimes, i do feel i've played it a little safe with my designs this year, but next year i'll definitely take full advantage of all the facilities thats around the college and perhaps collaborate with other students.

How to create works like ..
these are just some examples of work such as vault 49 that I'm really interested, and i'd love to approach some briefs by using different design methods such as 3d design.

What mistakes have you made and how have you learned from them?

As an individual:
my money management skills are pretty horrific so in future i need to stay away from online shopping and deceiving shops like home bargain and pound land. as well as £2.50 jager bombs in mint club.
-Occasionally my work can be over looked by my social life and sometimes the opposite so from now on i need to plan my time effectively.

As a designer:
This is one of my earliest designs i did for the mail shot brief, as shocking as it is i like to look back on my old work to be able to see how much i have progressed from when i first started, this is the great thing about blogger it enables you to reflect on yourself as a designer and as an individual.

Inspiration then and now ..
at the beginning of the year i was only familiar with fine artists, illustrators and photographers to use as a source of inspiration but now i'v adapted to looking elsewhere..
using graphic design designers, typographers as well as artists to give me a better understanding of what graphic design is and how i can approach my own designs.

What are your weaknesses and how do you intend to address these?

As an individual:
-I'm usually quite a confident person, but just not in situations like these, public speaking = my worst nightmare.
-I also tend to worry a lot and get myself stressed over silly things which isn't good and results in a terrible sleeping pattern.
-I'm a shoe and bag-oholic, could be the reason for my horrendous money management as i'm quite the collector.

As a designer:

-I tend to play it safe a lot in my designs, don't push myself enough, so this is something i need to work on
-I'm not very good on photoshop and some of the design work i wish to do is done on that program, so i'm going to practice a lot over summer which will give me opportunity to design work of my own interest too.
-I don't know an awful lot about practical things such as book binding, letterpress and screen printing, this is something i'm going to get more hands on with.

What have you enjoyed and why/ what designs have i enjoyed?
things I've enjoyed over the course of the year
As an individual:
-Loved living in Leeds, it's a really cool layer back city, with a great student vibe.
-good the music scene here, nights out are always eventful.
-Met a great group of friends in my halls and on the course as well, feel really settled in to the city and can't wait to live in a house next year in Hyde Park.

Design wise:
- i loved the 100 things briefs, i was able to experiment with aspects of photography and produce designs which reflected it.
- i also really enjoyed the what is a line brief, this is when became a huge fan of type design and realised i was in my design element when i i had the opportunity to design something i've always wanted to, which is in the field of music.
-A recent brief i loved was theory into practice, again using my skills in portraiture, illustration and type design to create something which reflected me in a sense as well full filled the brief.

Future prospects?
Throughout the year I've grown a lot as a designer compared to when i first started, i was pretty much oblivious of what i'd be doing right.. i think i have an idea of what i'd like to be doing in 3 years time, i know it might change but, for further prospects i'd like to think i could design perfume or cosmetics packaging or design in the music industry.

Ambitions?
These are some of the aims i'd like to achieve during the course and in the future such as traveling, being successful and just experimenting more as a young designer while the opportunities are available.
