Tutorial | Extended Practice

Today I had a tutorial with Amber to discuss my main brief of the year Pink Ink.

Issues discussed in the tutorial:

Pink Ink has been a brief with the largest time frame due to extensive research, experimentation and continuous designing to develop a large body of work.

My aim for this brief  is to show my ability to do in-depth research as well as investigate seasonal trends in interior and fashion, focusing on colour and pattern to develop a collection of work which will reflect  not only my skills as a designer but also to show my versatility as a graphic designer with interests in other design sectors.

Tutorial feedback:

Ambers feedback was very positive, her response to the work I have developed for the brief I that I show recognition in the design area I want to be working in, and that my work is visually effective and collectively works well.

Action to be made:

- Continue mocking up
- Create final printed material
- Photograph in the photography studio

Contacting agencies/ studios

Below is the email template I sent out to a few companies I was interested in visiting their offices.

I emailed the likes of Asos, Arcadia Group, Basso and Brookes, House of Holland and Illustrated people

Hello!

My name is Lisa Marina Burns, I am a student at Leeds College of Art studying Graphic Design.
I have a huge interest in fashion, photography, digital design and print design for product and apparel.

ASOS is a company I would love to work for after graduating!

So I am writing to you to request a visit to your London studio/ office to gain an understating of the working environment. I would really appreciate a moment with a member of your team to talk about life working at ASOS.

Many Thanks, Lisa Marina.

Tutorial with John | PPP

Today I had a 30 minute tutorial to discuss me as a young and professional designer, and the direction of work I aim to go in as well as studio visits and possible placements.

I explained to John that my main interests were Branding/ Fashion/ Interior/ Print and Pattern.

I told John that I enjoy generating digital art work for print and pattern to be applied to interior and fashion products such as wallpaper, textiles surfaces or clothing and accessories.

John responded by saying that there are many areas of design I could venture and the best thing to do would be to contact studios or companies who supply pattern design for such products.

Companies and studios I am interested in contacting for advice and information:

- Tiger print
- Trendstop
- Print source
- Pattern People
- SFD

Each of these studios engage in an area I'm am interested in whether it be they supply print for apparel, sourcing imagery for new designs in fashion and interior, concentrate on retail design and visual merchandising.

The discussion with John was helpful as he gave me great feedback on the designs I have been working on so far this year, and his feedback has helped me find my feet a little more in terms of the direction I should be heading in - by contacting professionals for advice.
